Shadow of Destiny PSP port rated for US

July 31, 2009

Shadow of Destiny - Image 1

Earlier this month we learned that the PS2 title Shadow of Destiny was being ported over to the Sony PSP by Konami in Japan. Now, thanks to the ESRB, we learn that it's being readied for a US release as well.

The Japanese version will launch on October 1, but Konami hasn't released any details yet regarding the game's US release. Heck, they haven't even officially announced it. It shouldn't take too long, though, as the PS2 original has already been localized.

R-Type Tactics II details, debut trailer

July 31, 2009

Irem has revealed a few more details regarding R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate, the sequel to the tactical strategy PSP title R-Type Tactics (R-Type Command outside Japan). One of the few things they didn't reveal, however, is just what "Bitter Chocolate" means. I guess we'll find out when we play the game. If it gets an overseas release, that is.

In addition to the expanded unit count we've posted about before, R-Type Tactics II will also feature more story paths and new battle commands. The former makes me think that both sides of the human-centric conflict in the game will be playable. There will also be downloadable missions to extend the game's lifespan.

Other features include local multiplayer and Game Sharing. Seriously, more games should have a Game Sharing feature built in. The smaller ones, at least. Irem has also released the debut trailer for the game, which you can check out below. R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate will drop down in Japan on October 29.

July 31, 2009

Sony Computer Entertainment America has just announced yet another PSP-exclusive title, NBA 10 The Inside. Though it's rather unusual for sports titles not to go multiplatform, SCEA promises that this one will offer "the most diverse and feature-rich handheld NBA action available."

Combining arcade and simulator styles of gameplay, NBA 10 The Inside features realistic player interaction at 60fps while adding fun mini-games to keep you hooked in the game.

Gameplay modes include:
  • New Quest Modes
    • DodgeQuest Players will battle teams head-to-head in an attempt to take over the entire country while playing the Dodgeball mini-game. In-game power ups and player upgrades have also been added to the traditional Dodgeball mode for depth.
    • Give&GoQuest Players will face off on the Give & Go mini-game as they battle other cities and acquire players in an attempt to take over the entire country.
    • MiniQuest New Conquest mode lets players take over the entire country and choose from either Dodgeball, Conquest, Elimination, or Give & Go each time two cities battle one another.
  • New Mini-Games
    • Open Lanes A traditional 10 frame bowling mini-game with an NBA look and feel.
    • Cherry Pickin A puzzle based mini-game where players shoot colored orbs that stick to the game board, which is made of additional colored orbs. The goal is to line up at least three orbs of the same color to remove them from the board. The overall objective is to clear out all orbs on the game board to proceed to the next level.
    • Classics Shootin Bricks, Block A Shot, Big Shooter, Pinball and more classic mini-games return in NBA 10 The Inside.
NBA 10 The Inside will also feature commentary from Kenny Smith, as well as play-by-play and in-depth analysis care of Ian Eagle. The game will be playable via Ad Hoc for wireless multiplayer gameplay for up to two PSPs, or via VLAN if you want to play with strangers online.

SCEA is tossing NBA 10 The Inside into store shelves on October 6th, 2009.

PSP-PS3 connectivity confirmed for LittleBigPlanet

July 30, 2009

LittleBigPlanet - Image 1

Here's some good news for gamers who own both a PS3 and a PSP. Sony has confirmed that there will indeed be a degree of connectivity between the PS3 and PSP versions of Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet.

Those who already own the console version can unlock bonus content through hat Sony is calling the "Cross-Talk" feature. No details yet, but it would probably involve some extra costumes and the like.

Sony is also apparently planning a multi-mullion dollar marketing push for the PSP version of LittleBigPlanet which should drum up sales for the upcoming PSP Go. Maybe it'll even help move more units of LittleBigPlanet's Game of the Year edition as well.

Famitsu reveals more about God Eater’s Gun and Blade weapon forms

July 30, 2009

God Eater - Image 1

Over in Japan, Namco Bandai is continuing to build hype and anticipation for the PSP title God Eater, which is slated to be released there in the fall. As part of the hype train, they've revealed more details about the game to Famitsu.

After the barrage of screenshots and details we saw a while ago, this week's edition of Famitsu gives players a brief look at the HUD and the game's switchable weapons systems, specifically the Gun and Blade Forms.

According to a translation from PSPHyper, when a player's weapon is in Gun Form, the Oracle Points gauge in the bottom right of the screen will dictate if the weapon can still be fired. As long as there are Oracle Points remaining, players can still continue to squeeze the trigger and fire.

When the gauge gets depleted, it can be replenished by switching to another weapon form such as Blade Form. This form, on the other hand, makes use of the Stamina gauge. The translation doesn't say, but it probably depletes pretty much like the Oracle Points gauge. If it does, that would make constant switching between forms a necessity.

The same Famitsu article also shows three new characters and some shots of new Aragami. You can check them out in the scans below.
